Dies Irae Ridge Equine presents:
What is Barrel Racing?
Barrel racing within DIRE is defined by the balance between power and discipline. Each run is expected to be fast, but never uncontrolled, aggressive, but never careless. The objective is not simply speed, but the ability to maintain accuracy, rhythm, and composure while moving within it.
Riders are to follow the standard cloverleaf pattern, navigating each barrel with clean, efficient turns and a consistent line. Approach, positioning, and exit matter as much as time. Wide turns, knocked barrels, or loss of control will not be overlooked.
Execution is measured not only by the clock, but by how well the pattern is held under pressure.
Barrel Racing Judging and Expectations
TIME & SPEED
Placings are determined by the fastest clean time. Riders are expected to maintain forward momentum while preserving control through the pattern.
Speed alone is not sufficient. Runs must remain clean.
PENALTIES
Running over barrel | +5 seconds per barrel
Missed barrel or broken pattern | One re-run, second time = disqualification
PATTERN REQUIREMENT
All riders must complete the required pattern as it is shown. This includes: standard cloverleaf, butterfly patterns, pole bending patterns, etc.
Failure to follow the correct pattern will result in disqualification
DESYNC PROTOCOL
Desync is understood to occur. DIRE operates on an honor standard.
If a run is affected, riders must call it immediately to be eligible for a re-run.
Failure to declare desync at the time of the run may result in time penalties or the run being upheld as recorded.
Concerns are to be addressed privately. Public disputes will not be entertained and you may be asked to leave in the event a situation escalates.
Being fast is expected. Staying clean is required.
